I am Lisa Max, an illustrator and surface designer living and working on beautiful Whadjuk Boodja in Perth, Western Australia.
I create illustrations and patterns for clients as well as for my own online store. Most of my illustration work is produced digitally, however lately pens and gouache paint have been making a few surprise appearances!
My illustrations frequently feature people, creatures, plants and everyday objects. I enjoy creating work that is both bold and playful, drawing from everyday life as well as fantastical realms.
Growing up near Stuttgart in southern Germany, I first developed a serious interest in the visual arts during my high school years, when I discovered museums, graphic novels and gig photography. Upon graduating, I moved to Austria to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. My early illustration practice explored DIY culture, screen printing, zine making, street art and character design. During my time in Vienna I gained experience as a curator and exhibiting artist, while simultaneously taking my first steps towards working as a freelance designer. I also acquired the wonderful academic title of Magistra Artium, which gives me the appearance of an artistic wizard, but translates simply to a master’s degree in the arts.
After graduating from the Academy I migrated to Australia to join my partner in Boorloo/Perth, where I have lived ever since.
My artistic to-do list includes illustrating a book, working with some of my favourite fashion labels and taking on new and exciting challenges of all kinds! If you are interested in working with me, head over to the contact page and drop me a line.
I wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which I am honoured to be living and creating work, the Whadjuk Noongar people.
